Squatters, Toilet Paper and More

A continuation of thoughts on the trip thus far

* For those who have thus far missed the experience, a squatter is a hole in the floor with foot slots on each side.  This is an alternative to the traditional toilet as we know it and occurs frequently in China, particularly rural areas.  Some say this is a healthier means of relieving one's self but it definitely takes some adjustment.  Fortunately more and more toilets with which we are familiar are prevalent, most certainly in urban areas.

*For some reason there seems to be a dirth of toilet paper and paper napkins in China.  We carried packs of tissues and wipes which came in handy on several occasions.  Don't get me wrong, we also encountered some very sophisticated, high-end toilets, paper and all.

*Just returned from dinner with John Chen on the 86th floor of Taipei 101 once the tallest building in the world.  At lunch he had taken us to his favorite vegetarian restaurant - what an array of choices.  Thereafter, we went to a famous hot springs in Beitou, a suburb of Taipei where we took a dip in volcanic heated water as hot as 46 degrees centigrade.
